One of the oldest incense materials, sandalwood has been used for over four millennia.

As the sandlwood tree matures past 15 years, the fragrant oil develops in the roots and gradually developing heartwood. The sandalwood tree is never felled, but uprooted in the rainy season, when the roots are richer in the precious essential oil, which is extracted via a process of steam distillation.

Sandalwood oil has a distinctive soft, warm, smooth, creamy, and milky precious-wood scent. It imparts a long-lasting, woody base to perfumes from the oriental, woody, fougère, and chypre families, and is the key ingredient in the ‘floriental’ fragrance family, when it is often combined with white florals such as jasmine, ylang ylang, gardenia, plumeria, orange blossom and tuberose.

It is our belief that the highest quality Sandalwood is currently being supplied by the Tamil Nadu region, where more mature trees can be found, and that is what we use for our Sandalwood fragrance.

Did you know that The Library of Fragrance colognes can be layered to create scents that are unique to you? Mix and match any two, or more, to create combinations for every mood and occasion. Here are some suggestions to try with Sandalwood:

  • To add a clean note, layer with Clean Skin
  • To add a floral note, layer with Jasmine
  • To add a fresh note, layer with Ocean
  • To add a fruity note, layer with Fig Leaf
  • To add a sweet note, layer with Hawaiian Vanilla
  • To add a green note, layer with Wet Garden
  • To add a woody / spicy note, layer with Amber

Confused about the difference between cologne and perfume, parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette and/or aftershave? These different names simply refer to the concentration of fragrance oil within the bottle. All our fragrances are colognes, which means that they contain between 2-8% of fragrance oil. All of our products are unisex; we don’t believe that fragrance has a gender.
