The Library of Fragrance - this fortnight's reviews!

Firstly, a big thank you to I Scent You a Day for this fabulous pic showcasing our  Bonfire and Mahogany colognes. We can almost smell the crackling fire and feel the crisp Autumn leaves.

I Scent You a Day hit the nail on the head, as we really do “have a scent for every occasion”. The complex scent of our Bonfire fragrance impressed and proved to be an excellent choice for some Autumnal layering with some of our other offerings: “Bonfire and Mahogany gives a lovely combination of both smoke and incense - and it is perfect for Autumn…When I blended Pipe Tobacco with Bonfire, the effect was even more interesting and equally pleasing. The cosy warmth of Pipe Tobacco gave smoky Bonfire a warm nuttiness that gave the impression of the wood surround of a fireplace in winter. You have smoke’n’cosy all in one and I really liked this combination.” Us too.

Bonfire also made it into a smoke-inspired piece by Josephine Fairley, co-founder of The Perfume Society, for telegraph.co.uk. Of our fragrance she says, “you can almost close your eyes and still see sparklers.”

Stephan Matthews – see his blog here – wrote a great piece reviewing our brand 14 months on from our UK launch, taking a closer look at what makes us unique. “Rather than create a fragrance with lots of different ingredients, the Library of Fragrance produces "single" scents that represent a particular smell. Yes, each one has more than one "ingredient" but the fragrance doesn't change over time...” He says,These are real perfumes for real people, and they truly do put "fun back into fragrance".

Enya Alia searched out our Snow fragrance as it sounded appropriate for this time of year and it smells gorgeous! A little goes a long way! This Snow fragrance captures the scent of the cold air and silent moments in the forest, air fresh snowfall.”

Thanks to Emma for re-visiting The Library of Fragrance again in her blog Bambino Blush and Boho proclaiming, “I personally love The Library Of Fragrance”. Always lovely to hear! Of our Fireplace cologne she says, “If you like slightly musky woody base notes, you will love this one. I think this is perfect for winter as I found with the Gingerbread scent I bought previously. I can't wait to wear it and I may even try layering it with another perfume.” Come Spring time, this will be marvellous layered with the floral notes of Jasmine, to add a fresher dimension.

We were so pleased to hear that Mrs C. from The Thumbs Up is partial to our Clean Skin fragrance and has also discovered a love for Bulgarian Rose; “I’m not into heavy floral fragrances at all but this is probably the lightest, freshest rose perfume I’ve ever tried. It’s not at all cloying and headache-inducing like so many others. It’s simply clean, fresh and quite beautiful.” As an aside Mrs C., we hope everyone enjoyed their fragrant Christmas presents!

Erisea Mag wrote a spooky piece in anticipation of Halloween and “searched high and low for a suitable fragrance for All Hallows Eve and think we have found just the right one!...Pumpkin Pie is a wonderfully warm and spicy fragrance that is perfect for Halloween, it will leave you smelling like you have been in the kitchen baking this delicious dish all day and have brought the yummy aroma with you!

Our perfumer Mark Crames contributed to a piece for Glossy Box on ‘How to Layer Perfume Like a Pro’ and in this piece talks about how Oud works well with floral scents to take you from “day to night, or summer to winter”.

In What Does Pleasure Smell Like? Why A Fragrance Can Turn You On Instyle.co.uk has written a truly fascinating piece on our emotional connections to scents and speaks with cognitive neuroscientist, professor Rachel Herz, who has worked with us. The piece talks about how at The Library of Fragrance we tap “into the scientific connections between smell, memory and pleasure…the Library of Fragrance’s 300 scents strip olfactory pleasure right down to its roots. No fancy bottle, no beautiful model, no fashion house kudos. Each plainly packaged fragrance is designed to trigger good feelings by prodding at pre-existing memories.” A really interesting read.

Finally, Fashionbeans cited Oud, Sandalwood, Ocean, Amber and Pumpkin Pie in a round up of ‘The Best Men’s Fragrances Under £20’. Plus an interesting fact about the latter that you’ll have to click on the link to find out for yourself!

Wow! That sums up a very busy October. Check back soon to see what November held in store for us.
